MOWAG begin indefinite strike over unmet demands

MOWAG

The Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana (MOWAG) has initiated an indefinite strike starting today, Thursday, September 26, in protest over poor working conditions.

Key issues raised by the union include the inadequate supply of personal protective equipment (PPE), which has exposed workers to health risks, and the failure to pay salary arrears dating back to 2020.

Additionally, MOWAG’s request for financial clearance to hire 500 additional mortuary workers has been ignored, further compounding the challenges faced by current staff.

Richard Kofi Jordan, General Secretary of MOWAG, confirmed that union members have begun the strike by donning red armbands and have no plans to return to work until their demands are fully met.

He emphasized that the union is no longer interested in further discussions, having engaged in several unsuccessful negotiations with their employer.

The union insists on the immediate implementation of their demands, which they believe will not significantly impact the economy.

MOWAG has not set an end date for the strike, maintaining that it will continue indefinitely until concrete results are achieved.
