Thirty-nine participants from the Democracy Hub protests have been remanded into custody, with a bench warrant issued for one protester who was previously released on police inquiry bail but failed to appear in court, despite being aware of the proceedings.

This development brings the total number of protesters brought before the court to 40.

Of those appearing in court, 28 have been remanded into police custody after pleading not guilty, while 11 others have been placed in prison custody for two weeks. The pleas of the 11 in prison custody are yet to be taken.

The lawyer for the 11 requested an adjournment to review the charges, as the charge sheet was only presented during the court session.

The Democracy Hub protesters face multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit a crime (unlawful assembly), unlawful assembly, causing unlawful damage, offensive conduct conducive to a breach of peace, assault on a public officer, and defacement of public property.

The case has been adjourned to October 8, 2024.
