NDC accuses EC of hiding final voter register amid concerns of irregularities

Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of withholding the final voter register due to fears of exposing further discrepancies.

He raised these concerns during a meeting with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and other stakeholders on September 23.

Dr. Boamah expressed frustration over the EC’s failure to provide the final voter register, emphasizing that this lack of transparency raises serious questions about the integrity of the electoral process as the upcoming elections approach. He argued that the delay in releasing the register reflects the EC’s insufficient commitment to ensuring free and fair elections.

The NDC has reportedly made multiple requests for access to the final voter register, but Dr. Boamah stated that the EC has not responded satisfactorily. He suggested that the Commission’s reluctance to share the document may indicate deeper issues within its operations, possibly pointing to irregularities or manipulative practices.

“The EC has not released the final voter’s register to the political party, but it claims it has resolved all our (NDC) concerns without knowing them.

“But they can’t start printing the register without giving us a copy. I feel they are afraid to release the register to us because they don’t know what more discrepancies we will expose,” he stated.

Dr. Boamah stressed the importance of a credible voter register, asserting that political parties, including the NDC, have a legal right to access this information ahead of the elections to facilitate necessary preparations and uphold transparency.
