Adapt plans and programs to align with the Ministry’s mission- Sanitation Minister

The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Madam Lydia Seyram Alhassan, has called on stakeholders in the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) sector to renew their commitment and align their plans with the Ministry’s mission for universal WASH access.

“Today, I urge us all to reaffirm our commitment to providing safe water, improved sanitation, and better hygiene for all Ghanaians, and to accelerate our progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 6 and beyond,” she stated.

Speaking at a high-level meeting on Ghana’s Presidential Compact on WASH in Accra, the Minister emphasized the government’s openness to collaboration, welcoming all regardless of background. She believes the Presidential Compact provides a strong foundation for advancing the sector and meeting both national and international targets.

She stated that Ghana’s efforts to improve access to water, sanitation, and hygiene services for all have gained new momentum, emphasizing that collective effort is essential to achieve this goal.

“We must unite to tackle this challenge, as millions of unserved and underserved Ghanaians urgently need this basic yet vital service,” she said.

The Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources (MSWR) noted that WASH has become a fundamental human right, urging the government and its partners to intensify their efforts to close the significant gap in access, particularly in sanitation.

“For those without access, the consequences are dire: illnesses, missed school days, loss of dignity, long journeys for basic needs, and diminished economic opportunities. We cannot let these individuals down,” she concluded.
