Guru wins University of Ghana SRC presidency
Hiplife artist Maradona Adjei Yeboah, popularly known as Guru, has emerged victorious in the University of Ghana (UG) SRC presidential elections.
Running alongside his vice-presidential candidate, Jeffery Adu-Yeboah, the duo secured 9,455 out of the 18,659 total votes cast.
Their victory follows legal challenges, notably a lawsuit filed by second-year student Asioh Joseph Mawuli against the university’s management concerning the SRC elections.
Mawuli’s legal action arose after Guru was allowed back into the SRC presidential race, despite having previously been disqualified for not meeting the residency requirement outlined in Article 30 of the SRC constitution, which mandates that candidates must be campus residents and eligible for a Junior Common Room (JCR) position.
Mawuli sought a legal declaration affirming the disqualification of Guru and his running mate, Emmanuel Owusu Amponsah, based on the SRC vetting committee’s decision.
Despite these challenges, Guru’s team ultimately triumphed in the elections.
