NDC urges public to join “Enough is Enough” protest over voter register discrepancies

The NDC has called on Ghanaians to join in demanding an electoral roll that truly reflects the will of the people for the upcoming elections.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on Ghanaians to join in demanding an electoral roll that truly reflects the will of the people after the upcoming elections on December 7.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, September 16, the Western Regional Secretary of the NDC, Joseph Nelson, outlined several errors the party claims to have found in the current voter register, accusing the Electoral Commission (EC) of failing to uphold free, fair, and transparent elections.

Mr. Nelson cited the illegal inclusion of over 243,000 previous voter transfers in the 2024 register, along with the discovery of more than 15,000 unidentified voter transfer records attributed to fake registrations. Additionally, he noted that nearly 4,000 voters who were present in the 2023 register had been deleted from the 2024 provisional register due to transfers, while over 2,000 transferred voters had not been included in the Absentee Voter List as required by law.

The NDC further alleged that corrupt files were found in the register, preventing the display of voters’ names and photos, which raised concerns about potential issues on election day. The party claims it has drawn the EC’s attention to these issues, but the commission has reportedly refused to address them.

As a result, the NDC is urging Ghanaians to participate in a “peaceful, Enough is Enough” demonstration to press for electoral reforms.
