CFI urges EC to commit to independent audit of voters’ register

EC

The Civic Forum Initiative (CFI), a coalition of key Civil Society Organisations, including the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG), has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct an independent audit of the final voters’ register once it is completed, and in a timely manner.

This recommendation comes in response to concerns raised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over alleged discrepancies in the current voters’ register.

In light of the NDC’s planned nationwide protest against the EC, the CFI emphasized the need for dialogue over confrontation.

They stressed that the issues between the NDC and the EC could be resolved through sincere and constructive discussions among all stakeholders.

The CFI also reiterated its commitment to supporting peaceful and credible elections, noting the importance of ensuring that Ghana continues to be a strong example of multiparty democracy in West Africa.

They pledged their assistance in maintaining the integrity of the election process as the country prepares for its upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.
