Bawumia criticizes Mahama for “indecent” remarks, calls for respectful political discourse

The NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has criticized former President John Mahama over recent comments he deemed disrespectful.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has criticized former President John Mahama over recent comments he deemed disrespectful.

John Mahama had accused Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and religious leaders of hypocrisy for not criticizing the current NPP government.

Speaking during his campaign in the Amasaman constituency on Monday, Dr. Bawumia expressed concern about the former president’s language, urging for a more respectful tone in political discussions.

Bawumia noted that while the upcoming election is a contest between himself and Mahama, the former president’s frustration has led to inappropriate statements. He referenced Mahama’s recent criticism of religious leaders, chiefs, and CSOs, labeling them hypocrites, and also recalled Mahama’s insults directed at the Electoral Commission (EC) and the NPP government.

“You all know that the December polls are between myself and former President Mahama, but we all know, and he also knows, that he will fail, so he gets peeved at the least thing. I have heard that today he insulted pastors, chiefs, imams, and CSOs, saying they are all hypocrites. Have you heard this before?”

“Is that how a former president should speak?… Recently too, he insulted the EC and said that the NPP government is foolish. Have you heard this before?

“Is that how a former president should speak? We must have some standards of decency in the language we speak as politicians. This election is about ideas, not insults,” he stated.
