Chief of Aboso petitions Interior Minister and IGP over Police misconduct

Aboso

Nana Kwabena Asante I, the Chief of Aboso, has formally petitioned the Minister of the Interior, Henry Quartey, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, to investigate the actions of three senior officers within the Western Central Regional Police Command.

The petition, signed on September 3, 2024, by the Chief, Queen Mother Nana Akosua Akomaso, and other local leaders, calls for a thorough review of the officers’ conduct.

The officers named in the petition are the Western Central Regional Police Commander, the Tarkwa Divisional Police Commander, and Aboso Police Chief Inspector Joseph Bosman Amoako.

The petition raises concerns over their behaviour, which is alleged to fall below the ethical standards expected of the Ghana Police Service. Chief Inspector Amoako, in particular, is criticized for having “outlived his usefulness” in the region.

The petition accuses the officers of violating the rights of the people and threatening the peace of the Aboso community.

It also claims they have supported “miscreants and non-indigenous groups” in installing a rival chief, despite the presence of a legally recognized traditional ruler.

Additionally, the Western Central Regional Police Commander is alleged to have verbally assaulted traditional leaders, including the Nifahene, who has threatened legal action if the harassment persists.

The Chief of Aboso emphasized the need for urgent intervention to prevent the situation from escalating, warning that the peace and security of the community could be at risk.
