At the opening ceremony of the Education U.S. College Fair held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel on September 13, 2024, Ghana’s Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, reflected on the achievements of Ghanaians abroad.
He warmly welcomed the American educators and colleges present and expressed pride in the exceptional talent within Ghana’s education sector.
Dr. Adutwum encouraged a smooth recruitment process for Ghanaian students, highlighting their significant value to U.S. institutions due to their high-quality education and strong character.
Dr. Adutwum shared how his own experience in the U.S. had expanded his perspective and opportunities, contrasting it with the more rigid academic environment he had known in Ghana. He praised the supportive, success-oriented atmosphere in American universities, where professors are dedicated to helping students thrive.
He advised prospective students to be proactive in their academic journeys, stressing the importance of asking questions and seeking assistance when needed. He also emphasized that leadership skills and personal stories are crucial in application essays, as they complement academic achievements.
Dr. Adutwum concluded by commending U.S. universities for recognizing Ghanaian talent and urged students to seize the opportunities available in the U.S. He encouraged them to eventually return to Ghana to contribute to the country’s development, reinforcing the belief that significant accomplishments are possible both at home and abroad.
