Ablakwa launches GH¢100K rent fund for victims of the Akosombo Dam Spillage
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has introduced a GH¢100,000 emergency rent fund aimed at helping those displaced by the Akosombo dam spillage, which occurred in October 2023.
The fund is intended to provide temporary accommodation for victims, while efforts are made to ensure their full resettlement and compensation.
Ablakwa emphasized that over 12,000 individuals were affected by the disaster, with 1,360 still living in temporary shelters, which he described as unacceptable.
He reiterated his commitment to prioritizing the total resettlement and compensation of all victims during his next term in office, should he be re-elected.
He highlighted that the emergency rent fund will give priority to women, especially nursing mothers, to assist those still living in makeshift shelters.
