On Monday, September 9th, 2024, Wassa East saw a noteworthy development in its political scene as Lawyer Gertrude Effah Mona, an aspiring Member of Parliament, officially submitted her nomination forms.
She is set to contest the December 7 Parliamentary elections representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Accompanied by a sea of supporters, including party constituency executives, polling station executives, youth, grassroots supporters, and party faithful, Mona’s nomination filing was met with an electric atmosphere, signalling a new dawn of possibility for Wassa East.
Addressing the media, District Chief Executive Hon Emmanuel Boakye expressed optimism about the party’s chances, stating that internal issues are being resolved and that they are united in their quest for victory.
He said, ” There is friction in every political party but as adults, we should be able to resolve any wrangling. We are going to this election with one voice, and we are winning, because we have come together regardless.”
Lawyer Gertrude Effah Mona, the Parliamentary Candidate, expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support, citing the lack of development in Wassa East as a key motivator for her candidacy.
She highlighted the deplorable state of the Domama road as a priority area, promising to tackle it head-on if elected.
Mona also took a subtle jab at her opponent, Adjei Mensah, characterizing his strategies as “diabolic” and “inhumane.” With her nomination filing, Mona has officially thrown her hat into the ring, setting the stage for a keenly contested election in Wassa East.
