Nzema Residents Stage Massive Protest Against Petroleum Hub Project

The Coalition of Concerned Nzema People has embarked on a massive demonstration over the proposed Petroleum Hub project.

Speaking in an interview with the media, Corporate Communication Officer of the Coalition, Martin Fiifi Millson said they are in full support of development in Nzema land.

However, the acres of land designated for the project are too huge, and they will end up having no more land for future generations.

Hundreds of residents took part in the demo dubbed, Hands off Nzema lands, wielding placards with various messages to drum home their concerns, including 419 investment.

” We are not against the government bringing developmental projects to Jomoro or Nzema, all we are saying is to the private investor to tell us where the affected landowners will be relocated.

Our demands are clear because the lands allocated to the private developers are large per the land site plan,” He said.

Mr. Milson added, ” We know that when the petroleum hub is constructed we’ll get jobs to do, but the land earmarked for the project is too much. It will be appreciated if it is reduced from 20,000 to 7,000 acres.

We sent petitions to relevant authorities on this subject matter but the feedback wasn’t encouraging, and that forced us to carry out this protest.”
