Asantehene

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called on key professional organizations, including the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), and the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), to maintain their strong stance against illegal mining activities that continue to ravage Ghana’s environment and major water bodies.

Following recent condemnations of illegal mining from UTAG, GMA, and GBA, Otumfuo praised the GBA president for his bold position and encouraged other leaders to follow suit.

He stressed the urgent need for collective action, emphasizing that illegal mining poses a severe environmental threat.

Otumfuo questioned the legal system’s approach to addressing those who pollute water bodies, highlighting the damaging impact of mercury contamination and urging the legal and medical communities to collaborate on this crisis.

Asantehene also shared his own alarming experience witnessing the pollution of the River Pra, underscoring the need for immediate action to combat this environmental catastrophe.
