Asantehene calls for political trust in electoral commission to safeguard democratic integrity

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has urged political parties to reduce their mistrust of the Electoral Commission and collaborate to uphold the integrity of Ghana’s electoral process.

While acknowledging the necessity for political vigilance, he stressed the importance of restoring trust between the Commission and competing political parties and candidates.

Speaking at a dinner with members of the Ghana Bar Association during their Annual General Conference at the Manhyia Palace, the Asantehene highlighted the need to protect Ghana’s democratic values and called on citizens to prioritize peace and avoid electoral violence.

He expressed confidence in the country’s democratic progress and urged for continued trust in the electoral system, emphasizing that Ghana’s history has shown the system will ultimately reflect the will of the people.
