Tributes pour in for rapper Rich Homie Quan following his death in Atlanta

Tributes have been pouring in for US rapper Rich Homie Quan, who has died at the age of 34, as confirmed by authorities in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner reported his death, but the cause remains unknown, with an autopsy scheduled for Friday.

Rich Homie Quan, born Dequantes Devontay Lamar in October 1989, was a prominent figure in Atlanta’s rap scene.

He gained fame in the mid-2010s with hits like “Type of Way” (2013) and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” (2015).

His career saw him nominated for several BET and BET Hip Hop Awards and led to collaborations with major artists such as 2 Chainz, Young Thug, Gucci Mane, and Trinidad James.

Raised in a single-parent home, Rich Homie Quan initially aspired to be a baseball player before turning to music.

He served 15 months in jail in 2011 for his involvement in burglaries, but upon release, he focused on his music career, achieving significant success.

Since the announcement of his death, numerous tributes have been shared from across the rap community.

Singer Jacquees expressed his condolences on X, writing, “Rest in Peace my brother Rich Homie Quan. I love you for Life,” and called him a “legend.”

2 Chainz shared his grief on Instagram: “Dam lil brother, we just spoke about shooting a video, special prayer for you and your family, and pray for any and everybody that’s dealing with something my condolences bru.”

Rapper Quavo also posted on Instagram, reflecting, “May God be with us, never saw this being apart of our journey,” alongside a photo featuring himself, Rich Homie Quan, and other artists.

Engineer Alex Tumay, who worked closely with Rich Homie Quan, described him as “one of the nicest people I ever worked with and a true artist. Absolutely crushing news. RIP.”
