Mahama warns against misallocation of drought relief funds in Northern Ghana
John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has strongly cautioned that his party will not tolerate any attempts to divert funds intended for drought victims in Northern Ghana to individuals aligned with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The government has sought GHS 500 million from the contingency fund to assist affected farmers, pending approval from Parliament.
During a rally in Ayorya, Kintampo South District of the Bono Region, Mahama stressed the importance of fair and unbiased distribution of the relief funds, regardless of political affiliations.
He voiced concerns over the potential misuse of the funds by the NPP, citing past instances of alleged mismanagement, particularly during the distribution of COVID-19 relief funds.
Mahama urged the government to involve local chiefs in the distribution process to ensure transparency and accountability, emphasizing that the support must reach the intended beneficiaries.
He noted that his party would be closely monitoring the process to prevent any misallocation of resources.
