Galamsey: “You polluted the water more than us” -Annoh-Dompreh to NDC

Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has claimed that the previous NDC gov't was responsible for more significant water pollution than the NPP.

Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the Majority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyir, has stirred controversy by claiming that the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) government was responsible for more significant water pollution than the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

His remarks came during an emergency parliamentary session focused on the ongoing issue of illegal mining, commonly referred to as galamsey, which has been wreaking havoc on the country’s water bodies.

During the session, members of the Minority raised concerns over the government’s perceived failure to address the galamsey crisis effectively. In response, Annoh-Dompreh boldly asserted that the NDC’s tenure was marked by even worse environmental degradation, particularly in terms of water pollution. He suggested that an investigation would reveal the NDC’s greater culpability in the deterioration of Ghana’s water resources.

“I was very happy when the Minority Leader challenged us that we will debate this matter and the culprit will be mentioned. In fact, we are ready to debate now. If we are to look and investigate both sides of the house,” Annoh-Dompreh declared during the session.

“You have had the opportunity to rule this country before. I can tell you; you polluted the water more than us. You polluted the water more than us. So, let’s get matters straight,” he stated.

His statement adds another layer to the ongoing debate over the government’s approach to tackling galamsey, which continues to pose a serious threat to Ghana’s environment and public health.

The Majority Chief Whip’s comments also reflect the deepening partisan divide on the issue, with both sides of Parliament blaming each other for the environmental crisis.
