Fair Wages Commission Saves Ghana 345 Million Cedis – Ignatius Baffour Awuah

Minister of Employment,Labour Relations and Pensions, Ignatius Baffour Awuah says the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission has saved the country a substantive 345 million cedis through a nationwide monitoring exercise conducted last year.

Mr. Awuah, at a media briefing, said the initiative, which covered 120 public sector institutions, aimed at reducing the wage bill and enhancing transparency in public sector employment.

“Last year, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission conducted a nationwide payroll monitoring. The exercise covered One Hundred and Twenty public sector institutions consisting of 97 MMDAs, six universities and 17 others,”

“Analysis of the 2023 payroll data from the Controller and Accountant General’s Department showed a reduction in the wage bill by over 345 million. The payroll monitoring is still ongoing.”

“The world of work is changing rapidly and we must be adequately prepared for it. As a result, the Ministry has reviewed a number of sector enactments to make them comprehensive and suitable for contemporary use,” He said.
