Dr Bawumia: NDC MPs had no part in DRIP initiative, nobody should come and lie about it
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has refuted claims by some NDC Members of Parliament that they contributed to the procurement of equipment for the District Road Improvement Project (DRIP).
The government has recently supplied excavators and other earthmoving machinery to enhance road infrastructure across Ghana under this initiative.
During a speech at the Awubia Festival in Awutu Bereku, Awutu Senya West, Dr. Bawumia clarified that Parliament had no involvement in the project’s implementation. He stated that the idea originated from a committee he chaired, which proposed purchasing equipment to aid in the construction of roads in every district.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized that the project was solely the result of his committee’s efforts, with no parliamentary approval or involvement. He dismissed the claims by some MPs, asserting that they had no role in securing the equipment distributed to districts nationwide.
“On that committee which I chaired, the critical roads committee, I came up with the idea that we should buy equipment to help every district construct roads in Ghana. So we were to buy all districts excavators, rollers, graders, backhoes, tipper trucks and so on. This was an idea from my committee. It has nothing to do with Parliament.
“It has nothing to do with Parliament. We came up with the idea, we funded that. It didn’t go to Parliament for any approval so nobody should come and claim that they were responsible for all the equipment that we have sent to every district in this country.”
“This was the committee that I chaired. We came up with that idea and I made sure that we bought all of this equipment and we have taken it to every district in Ghana. So nobody should come and lie about it”, Dr Bawumia declared.
