Bus crash in China kills 11, including five students
A school bus crashed into a crowd in China’s Shandong province, killing at least 11 people, including five students, according to state media reports.
The tragic incident left several others injured, with one person in critical condition.
The bus reportedly lost control and plowed into a group of students and parents standing outside a school in Tai’an city.
The driver, who has been taken into custody, is under investigation as authorities try to determine whether the incident was intentional.
Chinese state media confirmed the deaths, stating, “So far, a total of 11 people have died (including six parents and five students),” after the bus struck the group on the side of the road.
Twelve others are reported to be in stable condition.
Images and videos circulating on social media show people trapped under the bus, highlighting the severity of the crash.
The incident occurred just days after students returned to school for the new academic year.
Traffic accidents with deadly outcomes are not uncommon in China. Just in July, a vehicle in the central city of Changsha crashed into a group of pedestrians, resulting in eight deaths and several injuries.
