Speaker Bagbin inaugurates first multi-purpose Astroturf in Upper West Region
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Bagbin, has officially commissioned a multipurpose astroturf at the McCoy College of Education in Nadowli, Upper West Region.
This multimillion Ghana Cedi facility is designed to nurture youth talent and boost sports development in the area.
As the first of its kind in the region, the 10 million Ghana Cedi sports complex features modern amenities, including floodlights for nighttime activities.
This multipurpose astroturf also boasts a seating capacity of over one thousand, along with a well-equipped building housing changing rooms for teams and officiating staff, as well as public washrooms.
During the commissioning ceremony, Bagbin encouraged the youth to take advantage of such opportunities to become change agents in their communities.
He emphasized the importance of self-initiative in driving community transformation.
Prior to the astroturf’s inauguration at McCoy College, Bagbin also performed a sod-cutting ceremony for a similar facility at the Simon Diedon Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS) in Wa.
At a meeting with the university’s management, Bagbin pledged his ongoing support for the institution and urged them to strive for excellence.
UBIDS Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel K. Derbile, expressed gratitude to the Speaker for his commitment, noting that the sports project would significantly enhance both the practical and strategic objectives of the university, particularly in the area of physical education. He also assured that the facility would be well-managed upon completion.
