EKMA Takes Steps Towards Peaceful Elections- Swears in New Executive of the inter-party Dialogue Committee
In a bid to ensure a peaceful election, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has inaugurated an Inter-Party Dialogue Committee for the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA).
The committee, comprising representatives from various political parties, security agencies, religious leaders, media personnel, and civil society organizations, aims to promote peaceful elections in the 2024 general elections.
The eight-member committee, sworn in on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the EKMA premises, is tasked with discussing strategies for a peaceful electoral process, resolving potential conflicts, and educating the public on peaceful voting practices.
The committee’s chairman, Pastor Alex Anum of the Kwesimintsim COP, expressed gratitude for the support and pledged to serve diligently.
Other executive members of the committee include:
- Imam Mohammed Ameen, 1st Deputy Imam of the Kwesimintsim Central Mosque, as Vice Chairman
- Miss Priscilla Ohenewaa, Spice FM media personnel, as Secretary
- Mr. Nicholas Yankey, NDC representative, as Organizer
- Mr. Askanda Badaru Adam, NPP representative, as Treasurer
Additionally, three executive members were also appointed:
- Yusif Osman, NCCE Director
- Chief Inspector Clement Ankomah, Effiakuma Police Station
- ASP Martin Adu-Acheampong, Kwesimintsim Police Station
Stakeholders present at the inauguration shared concerns about violence, bribery, and corruption. NCCE Director Yusif Osman and Chief Inspector Clement Ankomah addressed these concerns, emphasizing the need for party leaders to refrain from inciting their members to protect their votes, which often leads to chaos and violence.
They also warned against accepting bribes from politicians and encouraged citizens to report any such incidents to the police.
The Inter-Party Dialogue Committee is a significant step towards ensuring a peaceful and fair electoral process in EKMA. With the support of stakeholders and the commitment of committee members, the 2024 general elections are poised to be a success.
