ECG Undertakes Projects in Western Region

The Electricity Company of Ghana, ECG is undertaking several projects in some parts of communities in the Western Region.

According to the Western Regional PRO of ECG, Awal Boye, per the regulations of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission, PURC, gives ECG the right to work on installations belonging to the power distribution company for maintenance of equipment to promote efficiency.

Speaking on Beach FM, Western Echo Show with Arafat Musah, Mr. Awal Boye cautioned customers not to remove stickers placed on meters, by ECG officials.

The project, he mentioned, is under the Customer and Asset Information Management System, CIAMS, which is to aid ECG in gathering data on its assets planted on the premises of its customers.

He debunked claims that the stickers placed on meters consume more electricity.

” In terms of the project scope we started in Takoradi somewhere in June and July, and we’ve been able to cover a lot of area in Takoradi. Currently, the project is just targeted at Sekondi and Takoradi. It’s ongoing in other regions as well.”

One of the reasons, we are doing this, is that the law, that is Public Utilities Regulatory Commission’s L. I. 2430, mandates ECG to enter the premises where our installation is. So we want to plead with our customers when our people come to work, it’s just work they are about. They are not there to change your meter and exploit you, I’ve highlighted that it’s just to capture our assets and put them together in a database, ” Mr. Awal Boye asserted.

Mr. Awal further highlighted the significance of the project in the operation of the company.

He asked customers to look out for branded ECG officials who are assigned to work on various premises.

He added that no customer is to pay monies to any ECG officials who come to work under the project.

” This project would help us to have a good database of our assets, i.e transformers, poles, meters etc. It also helps us to have access digitally to address challenges confronting our customers. Essentially, this is to improve our service delivery to our customers,”

It’s a good project, we are just telling the public to give the ECG officers the chance to work. Don’t take off the stickers, the stickers are not there to make your meter run, ” He added.
