Workers resume Suame interchange project after wage increase assurances
Workers at Rango Construction Limited, the company handling the Suame Interchange project, have resumed operations following assurances from their employers regarding a promised wage increase.
Over the weekend, the workers, including steel benders, welders, drivers, and truck operators, halted their duties and staged a protest to demand the wage hike that management had previously committed to.
In addition to higher wages, the workers were also advocating for better transportation and feeding allowances.
Despite the temporary work stoppage, progress on constructing the overpasses and link roads, key components of the Suame Interchange project, continued.
The workers expressed frustration with management’s delay in implementing the agreed-upon pay raise.
The Construction and Building Materials Workers Union intervened, engaging in discussions with management to resolve the issues.
Eric Kontor, the Ashanti Regional Industrial Relations Officer, confirmed that all outstanding concerns had been successfully addressed, leading to the workers’ return to the construction site.
Kontor noted that the situation arose from a miscommunication, which has now been resolved, and emphasized the importance of preventing similar issues in the future.
After several meetings with management on Monday, the workers, who were also pushing for increases in transportation and feeding allowances, resumed work.
