Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Removes Three Chiefs in Strong Action Against Galamsey
In a bold move, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has removed the Gyaasihene, Akyeamehene, and Baamuhene of Sabronum from their positions during an Asanteman Council meeting on Monday, August 26, 2024, at Manhyia Palace.
This decisive action follows their involvement in illegal mining activities, commonly referred to as ‘galamsey,’ which have severely impacted the region.
The Asantehene’s decision reflects a firm stance against activities that endanger the environment and the well-being of the Asante kingdom. With Kofi Asante now appointed as the new Sabronum Manhene, the community hopes for a future free from the detrimental effects of galamsey.
Reactions to the destoolment have been varied; some commend the strong stance against illegal mining, while others express concern about the repercussions for the ousted individuals and their families.
