Late President Mills Deserves More Credit for Combating Corruption and Reclaiming State Lands – Ablakwa
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has asserted that the late President John Fiifi Atta Mills deserves greater recognition for his efforts in tackling corruption and reclaiming state lands.
In an interview on “The Talking Points” on Channel 1 TV on August 26, 2024, Ablakwa observed that Prof. Mills achieved notable successes discreetly, without resorting to the prosecution of individuals.
Ablakwa emphasized the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) determination to hold the New Patriotic Party accountable for corruption during their tenure.
He pointed to Prof. Mills’s achievements in recovering numerous state lands as a prime example of his effective action against land grabbing.
While acknowledging criticisms of the Mills administration for its lack of individual prosecutions, Ablakwa highlighted that Prof. Mills worked diligently to reclaim state assets that had been misappropriated.
Ablakwa voiced concerns about the current administration’s unprecedented levels of corruption, looting, and state capture. He assured that the NDC has learned from past experiences and is committed to pursuing accountability, ensuring that those responsible face prosecution.
On the subject of the Ghana at 50 debacle, Ablakwa criticized the approach taken, suggesting that direct prosecution would have been a more effective strategy. He stressed the importance of building robust cases and moving directly to prosecution rather than relying on commissions of inquiry.
