Bawumia vows to enhance access to capital for traders and SMEs, unveils new funding initiatives

Dr. Bawumia, has assured traders and businesses that his government will take decisive steps to address the financial challenges they face.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has assured traders and businesses that his government will take decisive steps to address the financial challenges they face in accessing funds.

During a tour of the Ablekuma North and Ablekuma West constituencies, Dr. Bawumia emphasized his commitment to making it easier for traders and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) to secure the capital they need to thrive.

Recognizing that limited access to funding is the most significant obstacle for many traders and SMEs, Dr. Bawumia proposed two major initiatives aimed at providing practical solutions. The first is the establishment of a Women’s Trade Empowerment Fund, specifically designed to support women in business by providing them with the financial resources they need to grow their enterprises.

The second is the creation of a dedicated SME bank that would focus on addressing the unique financial needs of small and medium-sized businesses, offering tailored financial products and services to help them succeed.

He highlighted the importance of funding for business expansion, noting that without adequate financial support, many traders and SMEs struggle to scale up their operations and maximize their potential.

Throughout his tour, Dr. Bawumia engaged in meet-and-greet sessions, stakeholder discussions, and community events, where he listened to the concerns of traders and business owners. He reassured them that under his leadership, the NPP government would prioritize policies that enhance access to capital, improve business conditions, and ultimately lead to economic empowerment.

“The NPP want to propose a new initiative to support businessmen. We want to support you. We are aware your biggest challenge is funding. Is that not so? You need funding to boost your businesses. Without funding, you’re unable to promote your trade so we are proposing two policies. One is the Women Trade Empowerment Fund. It’s a type of fund to help women support their business.”
