Ablakwa condemns govt’s inaction on Akosombo Dam Spillage relief efforts

Ablakwa

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has expressed deep frustration over the government’s prolonged failure to provide adequate assistance to individuals affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage.

Nearly a year after the disaster, many victims remain in camps without receiving compensation or the necessary support to rebuild their lives.

During a stakeholder public hearing, Ablakwa revealed that over 1,300 affected individuals are still living in temporary shelters, and he criticized the government’s response as insufficient.

He specifically called out the inter-ministerial committee established by the government to address the issue, noting that it has failed to engage with Members of Parliament from the affected areas.

Ablakwa expressed disappointment that the committee has not held any meetings with MPs, despite the urgency of the situation and the need for collaboration.

Ablakwa underscored the frustration of local chiefs and other stakeholders who have repeatedly inquired about the committee’s activities, only to be left without answers due to the lack of communication and action from the government.
