Three construction workers perish in building collapse at Kasoa’s Asempa Down
Three construction workers tragically lost their lives after a building under construction collapsed at Asempa Down in Kasoa, located in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.
A surviving worker at the site reported that a carpenter and two other workers were trapped beneath the rubble when the building gave way.
The carpenter died instantly, while the other two succumbed to their injuries during evacuation efforts en route to the hospital.
The collapse occurred as the workers were pouring concrete for the first floor of the multi-story building.
Patrick Sarfo, a site worker who survived the incident, explained that he was observing the construction from a nearby machine when he noticed the structure beginning to collapse.
He quickly pushed a fellow worker out of harm’s way and managed to escape himself.
Sarfo mentioned that he had observed signs of structural weakness in the foundation of the building and had previously alerted the workers on site.
Passers-by who witnessed the collapse assisted in the rescue efforts, helping to pull the trapped workers from the debris.
