Renal Patients Association urges political parties to prioritize affordable dialysis treatment
The Renal Patients Association of Ghana has called on political parties to prioritize making dialysis treatment more affordable across the country.
This appeal follows the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s promise to establish modern dialysis centers in regions currently lacking such facilities.
Kojo Ahenkorah, spokesperson for the renal patients association, welcomed the NDC’s proposal but stressed the importance of addressing the high costs associated with dialysis.
He highlighted the challenges patients face, citing the case of a woman who had to commute from Begoro in the Eastern Region to Korle Bu for dialysis twice a week for 10 years.
Ahenkorah expressed hope that the establishment of dialysis centers in all 16 regions would significantly ease the burden on patients, but he emphasized that pricing must also be considered to ensure the treatment is accessible to all.
