Bawumia vows to pass Broadcasting Bill before the 8th Parliament ends
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer and current Vice President, has indicated that the Akufo-Addo administration plans to collaborate with the 8th Parliament to pass the Broadcasting Bill before the house concludes its session.
In a media briefing on Sunday, August 25, 2024, Dr. Bawumia assured reporters of the government’s commitment to advancing the bill before Parliament’s final sitting of the year.
He stated, “In line with our philosophy and our commitment to upholding fundamental rights to free speech and media freedoms, as well as expanding individual rights, we are determined to pass and implement the Broadcasting Bill before the end of this parliamentary session.
This legislation aims to better protect media freedoms and pluralism.
Additionally, we will continue to support the Media Capacity Enhancement Programme to further develop the skills and knowledge of journalists,” Dr. Bawumia emphasized.
