Abossey Okai spare parts dealers in support of NDC’s fixed rate policy on imports

The Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has voiced its support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following the party’s proposed policy to implement a fixed rate on spare parts imported into the country if they win the December 7 elections.

The policy, announced by NDC’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, during the party’s manifesto launch at the University of Education, Winneba, on August 24, aims to ensure transparency in the charges imposed on imported vehicle consignments.

Takyi Addo, the association’s head of communications, stated that while the association is in favor of the NDC’s proposal, they are still carefully reviewing the policies of both the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) before making a final decision.

He mentioned that the idea of a fixed rate had been raised during a previous meeting with former President Mahama, noting that such a measure could address some of their challenges at the port.

He emphasized that a fixed rate would provide consistency in costs, such as the charges on a 20-foot container, which would remain stable for extended periods, potentially up to 10 or 15 years.

This consistency is seen as a positive step toward resolving some of the issues faced by the dealers.

Addo concluded by saying that the association is still reviewing the manifestoes of both major political parties and plans to release a comprehensive statement once their evaluation is complete.
