“I almost gave up” Amenfi Central MP opens up about emotional struggle ahead of election victory
In a heartfelt revelation, Honorable Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, has shared the emotional turmoil she endured before securing her parliamentary seat.
Speaking at a Thanksgiving service held at the Christian Believers Prayer Ministry International in Mamfe, Akuapim, Hon. Joana recounted the intense legal battles and calculated attempts by her opponents to undermine her candidacy.
With visible emotion, the MP admitted that the trauma and frustration she faced almost made her abandon her aspirations to represent her people in the August House of Parliament. Despite her unwavering commitment to bringing development to her constituents, a goal that has driven her throughout her political journey.
The legal ordeal, marked by what she describes as “almost impossible to win” battles, tested her resolve, determination, and faith in God. However, the MP’s resilience and faith ultimately prevailed, enabling her to overcome the obstacles and claim victory in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
“I’m overwhelmed with gratitude to God, who gave me the strength and wisdom to navigate the challenges that came my way,” she said, her voice trembling with emotion. “It’s not by my might but by God’s grace that I’ve emerged victorious. I’m humbled by the trust my constituents have placed in me, and I promise to work tirelessly to fulfil my campaign promises.”
My heartfelt appreciation also goes to my father in the Lord, Brother Emmanuel Nkansah, the founder and leader of this church, whom I’ve known for about two decades.
Recounting one of the darkest moments of her campaign, Hon. Joana revealed the depth of her despair. “At our second-to-last court hearing, which took place in Accra, although the case was originally heard in Sekondi, even my regional women’s organiser, who has actively been in politics for thirty years, gave up.
That day was indeed a sad day for me because it was evidently clear that I wasn’t going to be on the ballots,” she said. “At the court, I was made aware that I was already not eligible to contest and that the election would take place without me. But thanks to our God, who has a perfect plan not just for me but anyone who honestly calls on his name, he came through for me, and I was cleared to contest on the 1st of December, just six days to the elections. For me, I’ve known God and encountered His mercies, so I shall forever trust Him and be grateful to Him.”

The people of Amenfi Central have already seen glimpses of what the office of the MP intends to do, some of which are already underway, including the establishment of a block factory in Wassa Agona, the clearing of sites for the construction of a seven-faculty university in Wassa Agona, the establishment of a monthly stipend for all tertiary students in Amenfi Central, and the establishment of a training and support scheme for women in vegetable farming, among other projects.
These developments are a testament to the MP’s commitment to improving the lives of her constituents.
