Six-year-old boy missing for five days found alive in Vietnamese forest
A six-year-old boy who had been missing for five days was discovered deep within a forest in Vietnam’s northwestern Yen Bai province.
The boy, Dang Tien Lam, went missing on August 17 while playing in a stream with his nine siblings. He wandered into the hills and lost his way, according to local reports.
On Wednesday, Lam was found by local farmers who were clearing a cinnamon field near the forest when they heard a child’s cry.
The boy was discovered sitting in cassava bushes about 6km (3.7 miles) from where he had gone missing, so weak that he couldn’t stand on his own.
“I’m so tired, I can’t stand up, please carry me up,” Lam reportedly told 52-year-old farmer Ly Van Nang, who found him.
Reports indicated that Lam had survived by eating leaves, wild fruits, and drinking stream water.
Images shared online show locals caring for him and offering him cake after he was carried out of the forest. He was found wearing a red T-shirt and shorts, both of which were heavily soiled.
Mr. Nang, speaking to the local news site Dan Tri, said that Lam recounted how he couldn’t find his way home after getting lost and that “the more he walked, the more he could not find a way out.”
The police described Lam’s rescue as a “miracle,” expressing their relief in a Facebook post with the message, “Congratulations on returning safely to your family.”
The news was met with widespread relief on social media, where many congratulated Lam’s family and praised the search team for their dedicated efforts.
Local authorities had organized a large search operation, mobilizing more than 150 people, including police officers, soldiers, and local volunteers, to find the young boy.
