PAC directs GES to investigate 18 teachers over unauthorized promotions in Amansie Central
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has instructed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to investigate 18 teachers in the Amansie Central district for unlawfully promoting themselves, bypassing the established procedures of the GES.
According to a report from the Amansie Central Education Directorate, these teachers upgraded their positions without the necessary documentation, resulting in an estimated financial loss of GH¢188,000 to the state. The District Education Director, Vincent Ben Ameyaw, revealed that GH¢34,000 has been recovered so far.
“We have managed to recover GH¢34,731.53 and are continuing efforts to reclaim the remaining GH¢152,966.54,” Mr. Ameyaw stated. He clarified that the teachers had carried out the promotions independently, describing the situation as a “backdoor affair” that bypassed official channels.
“We did not place [promote those teachers], they did self-upgrading without passing through the office. So it is a backdoor affair.”
