The Tema Oil Refinery continues to face challenges in securing the investment needed for a complete operational recovery.
Energy Analyst, Dr Yussif Sulemana warns that TOR’s image as a political tool is deterring potential investors.
This, he noted, compounds the challenges TOR faces.
Dr Sulemana stresses that revamping the refinery requires non-political interference and collective efforts.
“If nothing is done to TOR, it will outlive its useful life which is gradually coming because what happens if a refinery is not growing, what happens then if the refinery is not running,
It is the running of the refinery that will lubricate it and enhance cashflow so that investment can be done. We haven’t run the refinery for the last decade, and it’s not a technical problem, it is just because we don’t have raw materials, That is so shameful, “
” And there will be a time that you need it, and you will not have it. All hope is not lost, if you visit the modern refinery that we have, look at the structure they have, and go and see TOR, you will see what we are doing to ourselves,
If TOR is to be left to do its business, in refining storage and marketing, no BDCs can compete so if we don’t want the refinery to run because of our individual differences and the politicians have so much also get themselves involved in oil marketing and importation,” Mr. Sulemana said.
