Most people in Takoradi don’t know the worth of content creation – Deaconess Abokomah

In recent times, the evolution of social media and digital content creation has presented numerous opportunities for individuals to carve out successful careers.

However, the environment in which these creators operate significantly impacts their growth and success. Deaconess Abokomah, a content creator who hails from Takoradi recently shared his experiences during an interview on Spice FM’s “Ofie ne fie” with host Nana Ama Shancy.

His story highlights the stark differences in the treatment and recognition of content creators between Takoradi and Accra.

Deaconess Abokomah made the bold decision to leave Takoradi, citing the lack of support for content creators in the area. Despite his efforts, he felt a persistent disregard from the local community.

“There’s no kind of support in Takoradi, and you might underestimate yourself because of how people will downgrade you,” he lamented. This sentiment is echoed by many creators who often face discouragement in environments that fail to recognize their work.

The prevailing mindset in Takoradi, according to Abokomah, stifles creativity and initiative. He illustrated how, despite his dedication, he struggled to gain the support he rightfully deserved. “You’ll never get all these goodies if you are based in Takoradi and might just give up. How people love to see you, respect you, hail you, people will see you and just walk past you in Takoradi”, He added.

The lack of brands willing to collaborate and the absence of financial support can make it hard for talented individuals to thrive.

Transitioning to Accra proved to be a transformative experience for Deaconess Abokomah. In contrast to Takoradi, the capital city exhibits a vibrant and supportive atmosphere for content creators. “The mindset is very different. They hail and respect content creators,” he noted. This newfound appreciation had a profound impact on her confidence and motivation as a creator.

Abokomah shared heartwarming anecdotes from her time in Accra, where even children would excitedly call his name upon spotting him. The community’s encouragement extended beyond mere acknowledgement; he reported instances where individuals graciously gifted her money as a form of motivation. Such gestures underscore the community spirit prevalent in Accra that fosters growth and talent recognition.

Moreover, Deaconess Abokomah’s move to Accra opened doors to lucrative contracts and brand collaborations, opportunities that were elusive during his time in Takoradi. “I lost a lot of contracts from Accra just because I was based in Takoradi,” he explained.

This reality emphasizes the critical role geography plays in the success of content creators, highlighting how their potential can flourish in more accommodating environments.

Deaconess Abokomah’s experience is not an isolated case. Many content creators across various fields face similar challenges in their respective locals.

The disparity between cities like Takoradi and Accra raises essential questions about support systems for creatives.

Not just content creators, creatives in Takoradi lament of how there is less or no support especially financially, when you find yourself in Takoradi making it hard to thrive as a creative based in Takoradi.
