Korle Bu denies claims of renal patient deaths and supplier debt
The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) has firmly denied recent media reports alleging the deaths of 20 renal patients and claims of outstanding debts to suppliers.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the hospital management addressed two key issues: the alleged deaths of 20 patients due to a shortage of dialysis consumables and the claim that these shortages were caused by a substantial debt to suppliers.
KBTH unequivocally refuted the allegations, stating that there is no evidence to support the claim that 20 renal patients have died this year due to a lack of dialysis supplies.
The hospital clarified that these reports stemmed from a misinterpreted media flyer and exaggerated online commentary.
Regarding the second claim, the hospital confirmed that the Ministry of Health has settled all outstanding payments to suppliers, dismissing the notion that the hospital owes GH¢6 million.
Additionally, KBTH announced that a new shipment of dialysis consumables had arrived through the Tema port, with another shipment currently being cleared.
Inpatient dialysis services resumed on August 12, with outpatient services expected to restart by the end of the week.
The management urged the public to disregard these false reports, which they believe were intended to incite fear and anxiety.
