The Auditor General’s report, which is currently under review by Ghana’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), has disclosed that over GH¢61 billion belonging to various state institutions is tied up with different companies and entities across the country.
Of this total, GH¢57 million is owed to various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), while GH¢5.6 billion is due to state-owned enterprises.
The Controller and Accountant General, Mr. Kwasi Adjei, presented this information during his appearance before the PAC on Monday, August 19, 2024, at Parliament House.
He stated that a committee has been formed to manage the recovery of these funds. This committee, composed of officials from the Auditor General’s Department and the Ministry of Finance, has already compiled a list of the companies involved.
“Some of these companies are insolvent or no longer exist,” Mr. Adjei noted.
“However, we will pursue those that are still operational to recover the funds. For those that are insolvent, we will recommend to the Ministry and Parliament that the debts be written off,” he assured the committee.
