Chief of Boinzan Calls For a Peaceful Election
Nana Ofori Ahenkan II, Chief of Sefwi Boinzan and Kontihene of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area, has called for peaceful elections in 2024 during the Elluo Festival celebration at Sefwi Boinzan.
The festival, which honors Sefwi Boinzan’s cultural heritage, served as the perfect backdrop for this peace message, with dignitaries, local leaders, and community members all supporting the call for a tranquil electoral process.
Under the theme “Creating a Peaceful Atmosphere for the 2024 Election: The Role of Traditional Leaders,” Nana Ofori Ahenkan II highlighted traditional authorities’ crucial role in fostering national peace and unity. He stressed that ensuring the nation’s stability is a shared responsibility, extending beyond political leaders to include traditional leaders, who hold significant sway within their communities.
In his media address, Nana Ofori Ahenkan II urged political leaders, party supporters, and the public to prioritize national stability over partisan interests. He emphasized the need for tolerance, mutual respect, and constructive dialogue to avoid electoral violence. “Peace is the foundation of our development; as traditional leaders, we must lead by example and maintain community peace before, during, and after the elections,” he said.
Nana Ofori Ahenkan II also called for greater collaboration among traditional leaders, the government, and security agencies to ensure smooth elections, highlighting the importance of dialogue and conflict resolution to address potential tensions.
In a show of unity, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman, the National Democratic Congress Running Mate, also addressed the gathering as a guest speaker on behalf of former President John Dramani Mahama.
She echoed the chief’s sentiments, urging Ghanaians to uphold the country’s tradition of peaceful and successful elections.
“The peace and stability of Ghana are paramount. Every Ghanaian has a role to play in ensuring that our nation remains a beacon of democracy in Africa,” Professor Opoku Agyemang remarked.
