460,611 candidates set to participate in the 2024 WASSCE

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) commenced the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School Candidates on Monday, August 19, 2024, with both practical and theory papers.

This follows the completion of the Visual Art Project work, which took place from August 5 to 16, 2024. The examination is scheduled to end on Friday, September 20, 2024.

A total of 460,611 candidates—comprising 212,954 males and 247,657 females from 1,003 schools—are registered for this year’s examination. This marks a 2.66% increase compared to the 448,674 candidates registered in 2023. The exams are being conducted at 1,000 centers nationwide.

WAEC has raised concerns about reports of widespread cheating schemes involving some institutions. Intelligence reports suggest that candidates in some areas are being charged between Gh¢200.00 and Gh¢500.00 to receive assistance from invigilators, supervisors at some centers plan to assign teachers to invigilate subjects they teach, and some schools have registered individuals who are not their legitimate students.

WAEC warns all Heads of Schools, Supervisors, and Invigilators to avoid any involvement in cheating, emphasizing that those who do will face disciplinary actions as per the examination’s rules and regulations.

The Council reserves the right to invalidate the entries and cancel the results of any candidates found to be involved in such activities. Furthermore, examination centers that do not adhere to the rules will be reassigned to WAEC-designated centers.

WAEC calls on all stakeholders, especially supervisors and invigilators, to support the integrity of the examination process.

Candidates are urged to follow the established rules and to be cautious of fraudulent websites offering fake questions and misleading services, which can distract from their studies.

In closing, the Council wishes all candidates success and reminds them that they can achieve their goals without resorting to cheating.
