Bawumia vows to introduce comprehensive tax reforms
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, has reiterated his commitment to abolishing the controversial E-Levy and the betting tax if elected President in the 2024 general elections.
He made this pledge during the party’s manifesto launch in Takoradi on Sunday, August 18.
Dr. Bawumia outlined his administration’s plan to introduce comprehensive tax reforms aimed at easing the financial burden on Ghanaians.
Among these reforms, he promised a tax amnesty for past tax obligations and waivers on interest and penalties for unfiled taxes.
He also detailed his vision to transform Ghana into a leading digital economy in Africa through targeted policies, competitive incentives, and investments.
His strategy includes investing in local talent and tech startups to position Ghana as a digital hub on the continent.
Additionally, he announced plans to reform the Value Added Tax (VAT) regime, simplify tax structures, and reduce withholding tax on small-scale gold exports to curb smuggling.
