The government has successfully restructured the legacy debt owed to Independent Power Producers (IPPs), addressing a critical issue that had posed a significant threat to their operations.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure sustainability in the energy sector and stabilize electricity supply across the country.

Herbert Krapa, the Minister of State at the Energy Ministry, highlighted the significance of renegotiating the legacy debt, emphasizing that it positions Ghana for long-term success in the energy sector.

During a visit to the Accra West Regional office of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Krapa called on the power distributor to restore public trust by promptly resolving customer grievances, particularly those related to meter acquisition and other service issues.

In a related update, ECG Managing Director Samuel Dubik Mahama addressed concerns about the new smart meters being introduced under the Loss Reduction Programme (LRP).

He dismissed allegations that the smart meters are designed to exploit customers, reassuring the public that these meters are intended to enhance accuracy and efficiency in electricity consumption.
