Economist Urges Jobs, Not Betting Tax Cuts

Economist Peter Terkper has suggested that job creation should take precedence over the elimination of the betting tax, a promise made by former President and NDC Flagbearer John Dramani Mahama.

Terkper contends that removing the betting tax might boost youth involvement in betting, potentially undermining productivity.

In an interview, Terkper stressed that creating employment opportunities for young people is crucial to reducing their dependence on betting as a source of income.

Economist Peter Terkper has voiced robust support for eliminating the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy), emphasizing that its removal could enhance digital transactions and reduce the reliance on physical cash within the economy.

John Dramani Mahama, the flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), pledged during a community event to abolish the E-Levy if he is elected.

In an interview with GBC Business News, Mr. Terkper highlighted that removing the E-Levy might encourage greater use of digital platforms, thereby mitigating the risks associated with handling large amounts of cash.
