Second Lady Samira Bawumia Campaigns in Wassa East, Endorses Lawyer Gertrude Effah Mona as NPP’s Candidate for Change

The 2024 general elections are shaping up to be a crucial moment in Ghana’s political landscape, with various constituencies vying for representation.

Yesterday, the Second Lady of Ghana, Samira Bawumia, visited Wassa East, specifically Wassa Ateiku, in a colourful and vibrant event.

The Second Lady was warmly received by the people of Ateiku, who gathered in large numbers to welcome her. In her address, she urged the people of Wassa East to remember the good works of her husband and vote for him in the upcoming elections.

She emphasized the need for a leader who can work alongside her husband to foster strategic development in the constituency, highlighting Lawyer Gertrude Effah Mona as the ideal candidate.

She further added that the NPP is an inclusive party and does not discriminate based on tribal or religious grounds, the reason Dr Mahamud Bawumia, a Muslim is leading the party.

Lawyer Mona, the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Wassa East, expressed her determination to break the jinx and unseat the incumbent MP, whom she described as an empty talkative MP.

In an exclusive interview with the media, Mona identified three major challenges facing the constituency: poor road networks, inadequate internet connectivity, and limited rural electrification.

She pledged to tackle these issues head-on and establish an agribusiness hub in the constituency.

“By the grace of God, we will win this election this year. Having been born into the Zongo community, I have strong support from within it, and we have a robust NDC presence here. Our party is united, and we are committed to offering jobs to those who can contribute effectively. If there’s something beneficial for the community, we will ensure it reaches us. Let’s stay united and vote overwhelmingly for the NDC, “

Mona emphasized her vision for the constituency’s development, stressing the need to harness its natural resources for the benefit of all.

“Agri-Business focuses on securing capital to acquire large tracts of land for agriculture. Existing cooperatives will help raise this capital to establish Agri-Business Centers in different communities. We plan to develop cottage industries, which will facilitate the acquisition of small agricultural machines for tasks like packaging,”

” Additionally, these centres will provide opportunities to sell your produce online, and potentially even internationally. To achieve these goals, the most crucial needs are delivery vans and sufficient capital. This vision is my highest aspiration for Wassa East,”
