Energy Analyst, Dr. Yussif Sulemana has called on the National Petroleum Authority to engage players to help resolve the issues surrounding LPG distribution in the country.
Dr. Sulemana was reacting to the LPG Marketing Company Association of Ghana’s decision to sever business relations with two bulk companies.
This decision is said to be the first step and a broader plan to protect local businesses and jobs in the sector.
The LPG marketer’s action follows plans by the two BDCs to sell gas directly to consumers under the Cylinder Recirculation Module.
With the development, analysts fear the move could lead to supply challenges in the market.
“I find this development quite disturbing, especially after we thought there was that exhaustive engagement with stakeholders with respect to the CRM. That said, I think everything must be done to avoid disruptions within the distribution of this critical commodity,”
“I think the target is basically some two BDCs but it all boils down to the implementation strategy of the CRM, so what I’ll urge is that the regulator should probably sit down and engage further with members of the Association to be able to resolve this issue,”
