Mepe residents demand compensation and housing for flood victims
Residents of Mepe in the North Tongu District are urgently calling for compensation and adequate housing for victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage, nearly 10 months after the incident.
The residents, addressing the press, expressed frustration over the government’s apparent reluctance to address the issue, highlighting the significant negative impact on their livelihoods.
They are demanding that the government complete the 20-unit housing project it initiated in Mepe.
Additionally, the community is urging the Volta River Authority (VRA) to implement proper precautions ahead of the planned water spillage this year.
Godwin Kwabla Avadetsi, spokesperson for the concerned citizens of Mepe, emphasized the need for careful action, noting that the soil remains saturated and may not absorb additional water effectively.
The residents also requested the government to improve infrastructure by resurfacing roads, providing proper drainage systems, and creating canals to harvest excess water for agricultural use.
