A man was arrested on Sunday for climbing the Eiffel Tower just hours before the Olympics closing ceremony, according to Paris police.

The man began his ascent around 14:45 local time (13:45 BST), prompting immediate intervention from officers who detained him.

Details about his motives and nationality remain unclear.

Social media footage captured the shirtless individual scaling the tower near the Olympic rings displayed for the games.

In another video, he was seen being escorted by police, handcuffed, and remarking to a bystander, “Bloody warm, innit?”

During the incident, the Associated Press reported that French police evacuated the area surrounding the Eiffel Tower.

The Eiffel Tower, which was a central feature of the Olympics opening ceremony, was not expected to play a role in the closing ceremony.
