Airbus Scandal: NDC criticizes NPP for failed attempt to label Mahama as corrupt

NDC has criticized the NPP for its failed efforts to portray Mahama as corrupt, following his exoneration by the OSP in the Airbus scandal.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for its unsuccessful efforts to portray former President John Mahama as corrupt, following his exoneration by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) in the Airbus scandal.

The OSP recently cleared Mahama of any wrongdoing, confirming him as Government Official One (GO1) in the controversial deal that involved the procurement of two military transport aircraft from Airbus during his presidency. Mahama and his brother, Samuel Adam Mahama, were implicated in the deal.

In an interview with Accra-based Citi News, NDC National Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi stated that the OSP’s findings affirm Mahama’s integrity. He emphasized that the NDC has consistently maintained that Mahama was not involved in any misconduct related to the aircraft procurement.

“The truth we all knew has today been vindicated by a statutory OSP. We have always maintained from the outset of this Airbus saga, which was created by the NPP, that President Mahama was squeaky clean,” Sammy Gyamfi said.

He further asserted that neither Mahama, his relatives, nor his appointees demanded or received any bribes, and that due process was followed throughout the procurement, ensuring the state was not short-changed.

He also criticized the NPP for what he described as a smear campaign aimed at tarnishing Mahama’s reputation, while accusing the ruling party of desperately seeking to draw false equivalences in corruption cases.

“Our brothers on the other side, talking about the corrupt Akufo-Addo, Bawumia, Agyapadie cabal, who are desperately seeking equalization, went on a smear campaign spree, trying desperately to smear President Mahama,” Sammy Gyamfi added, noting that the OSP’s ruling has now revealed the truth.
